Final (Deconstruction Video)

Video

With it being December, I decided to take the long standing tradition of Christmas and put a spin on it. The songs and ideas surrounding Christmas already have a somewhat creepy element about them, so I focused on that and made a "Creepy Christmas"

The video begins innocently; walking around, listening to music and looking at lights. But as the video progresses, the more weird parts become clear and things don't quite seem to be so innocent anymore. Lastly, it's just straight up creepy at the end.

I had a lot of fun making this video, and hope you all enjoy!

Music

Electronic -
Artist(s): Angelika Vee, Alex Leon
Song: All Nighter
This song really stood out to me for electronic style for several reasons. First of all, I am a big fan of Angelika Vee, a youtube performer, and not just for her collaborations. She is a phenomenal singer who sings several genres. In this specific case, Alex Leon works with Vee to create a new sound, which results in the new Electronic style. The technology that Leon uses in tandem with Vee's voice is what allowed for this to occur. For example, all of the instruments, percussion, and effects.

House -
Artist(s): Virtual Riot, Madi
Song: Flutter
Virtual Riot is a well known house music producer, and has created a plethora of work that can be considered phenomenal. In this song, he works with a singer Madi, using synthetic instruments and other technological tools to create the song.

Virtual
Artist(s): Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len
Song: Bouken No Sho Was Deleted
Rin and Len Kagamine are vocaloids like Hatsune Miku, and act as a specific brand of vocaloid music due to their unique coding and sound. They are completely virtual and have acquired a large fan base just like Hatsune Miku.

Nineties
Artist(s): Destiny's Child
Song: Girl
Destiny's Child was a female vocal group that rose to fame during the 90's. Personally, my siblings and I grew up singing all of their songs, and they produced widely successful tracks. As far as technology, they really thrived with pop and soulful genres, which usually used a wide array of instruments and many of their songs had a specific beat depending on the mood intended. Harmonies were also highly incorporated in their songs.

Drum and Bass
Artist(s): Ravel Nightstar
Song: The Drums and Bass of Flower Bless
While not directly one of the listed genres, Drum and Bass is a recent movement that features tracks with a strong and fast percussive beat. Many times, the songs are considered to he "hype" songs, meaning they're supposed to get listeners motivated and fired up. Ravel Nightstar uses a wide variety of technological tools in this piece to create a song that inspires emotions of encouragement and ferocity.

Performance Art

Here it is! The bane of my existence. My performance art was me going around to random people around campus and asking them to watch a video performance that I made.

Afterwards I had them participate in creating my poster for listing positives about ourselves as opposed to only focusing on negatives.

Xerox Copy Project

Here is a pic of my Xerox Machine Project.

I copied my hand, using the fingers as the branches of a tree. In a way, this can symbolize how many different aspects of life stem from what we do ourselves. Another message to be taken is that there are so many different paths all branching out from the same beginning, and through the acts that we carry out, we find ourselves who we are today.

I added more fingies!

30x30 Grid Art

Originally, I planned on making a puzzle, but with the announcement that the grid would need to be 30x30 units, I decided to do a pixel art. This specific picture is one that my siblings and I used to draw when I was really young, so I re-imagined it as a pixel art :D

Flip Book Shenanigans

Hey all

Here is my Flip Book Animation. May not look like much, but believe me when I say that I put everything I had into getting it finished XD

This is a representation and meaning of my tattoo. The cherry blossom branch symbolizes new beginnings, and the three words are the three characteristics that I try to express towards others. These all mean a lot to me and have deeply impacted my life, so I figured I would share it through this project :)

Stage Door Thoughts

Google Translate is so bad XD

In general, I enjoyed this assignment quite a lot. Broadway is a powerful thing, capable of reaching out to every end of society's spectrum. I was extremely interested in how despite the times, Broadway was always a place for people to go to experience amazing art, music, performance, etc. It didn't matter if it was in the middle of the cold war, or if JFK, MLKJr., or Malcolm X were assassinated, the world of Broadway just kept on turning. Seeing how Broadway evolved to show different decades was also really interesting. Overall, just being able to learn about all of this has given me more respect for Broadway.

50 percent? Nah, this assignment gets a 100 percent from me.

Thoughts on Madama Butterfly

9/19/16

"What the hell?"

1. Doll porn. O_O

2. I was confused as to why the man had come in the first place. My initial theory was that this was like Pocahontas, and the man had been looking to settle in this new land, but that changed when he left.

3. Why did the baby start as a fish?

4. When the man came back and decided to take the child as if it belonged to him alone, I literally threw my hands in the air. With the way this was produced, I was right there with the woman hoping that the man would come back and they would be a family. This shattered that hope.

5. Seeing the complete torment and eventual suicide that the mother underwent really shows the bond that a parent, and more specifically, a mother has with their baby. I felt truly sorry for her.

6. Lastly, was the last clip of the woman being brand new and back at the beginning of the piece  mean that the events would repeat themselves in a cycle? If so, why? What is the meaning behind this?

Ultimately, this was some weird stuff, but somehow I liked it. With how open ended it was, it left me wanting more and now I actually want to research about it and find its meaning.

Raul Cuero Comments

9/11/2016

-This guys is a badass

Seriously though, I truly appreciate Cuero's strength and perseverance. The point that I took most to heart from this interview was just how much you can accomplish against the odds. Despite being given practically nothing that would assist him (finances, education, location, geographic tendencies, etc.), Cuero still pursued his dream and became an extremely successful man. This point really hits home as I have faced several moments in life where I was discouraged to continue in my pursuits, including my current area of study in school. When I think of how Cuero also faced these problems as well as so many others, it really gives me motivation to keep chasing after my dreams and to be the me who I want to be (God, I love being cliche). To me, that is the ultimate way to live smart.

-Really really really enjoyed this process

ASCII Art

9/7/16

So, I just tried out the ASCII Art generator, inputting some pictures that I like as well as some art work that I've created. The results were interesting and I appreciated the science behind it. Being able to take an image that someone hand drew and transform it into code and letters, while still ending up with the image is really cool in my opinion. I did struggle with distinguishing value and shading, but that comes with the territory I guess. Overall, it was a cool process especially for how far we've come since then.

First Thoughts on ART 211

8/30/2016

So today marks the first lecture of Art and Technology in the Fall semester of 2016. First thoughts? Well, not much to be honest. Appreciated the energy brought on by Professor Roundtree (i.e. the absence of the usual monotone recital of the syllabus). And I'm looking forward to the interactive parts of the course as opposed to an endless essay writing, lecture-filled, totally blah class. Need a few more classes before I can say anything too confidently, but can't complain so far.

-Morgan
-Avid Grey's Anatomy fanatic
-Addicted to food
-Recent health advocate (don't push it though)
-O.C.D. about random things, like not wanting to only have four -'s so I made this last one to make me feel better.

I expect to get all of those fun facts and hoopla behind the history of art styles, artists... basically just art in general. I won't lie, I'm mainly in this class because it is required for my major, but with Professor Roundtree's energy that she showed today, I think I'll end up enjoying it quite a lot.
